Why this interest in british royalty? Surely it is of relevance only to those in the uk

Part of British tourism is the royal family. When I was a teen, I got up and watched the fairytale marriage of the century...Prince Charles and Lady Diana..but then I wasn’t the only one who did that.

Why are they british royals considered to be so important to the world that they are 'current events' and 'news'?

Why so much interest in what is an internal british matter, and as they are a constitutional monarchy actually have no power and no influence on the actual news and current events?

The antics of one powerless but privileged family is trivial.
Does the world see them as some kind of soap opera? And why give so much weight to something that is merely a distraction designed to part tourists from their money?

Thats exactly my point.
You quote from a chinese newspaper article that quotes an american writer.

Why should either have any interest, or suppose themselves qualified to have any say, on how the british run their premier tourist attraction?

A british visitor may go to france and enjoy visiting the eiffel tower or the louvre, but they do not feel they have some kind of stake in them, or any right to tell the French how to manage them.

Why does the rest of the world feel itself entitled to tell britain how to manage their monarchy?
Why do they care?
Is it just jealousy that britain still has its royalty and other countries don't?

Why are they so important to the world? That I don’t really know...guess good pr? Being a popular tourist attraction? Or maybe the wedding of the century captured our imaginations/love of romance where the beautiful woman gets the prince and they live happily ever after...until they don’t. Maybe it’s because of Diana who was the most famous woman in the world at that time..and it seems the queen of hearts like she wanted to be?

It would be a big deal if the queen and her family went from being a monarch to just some rich people...all those century’s of tradition gone..poof! That I think is news.

I went to Buckingham palace and I’m sure that’s a stop on anyone’s London itinerary...who knows what tourist money Britain could lose without the royal family? I’m sure people will still visit the palace whether she’s there or not. I couldn’t buy their china though...man that was expensive stuff!

Apparently the queen keeps her cornflakes in a tupperware container to keep them fresh. So maybe she doesn't use the china either.

That’s the theory anyway. I’m not sure that’s really what happened..but then again I’m not sure that wasn’t what happened...the world will probably never know unless Harry does know and that’s one of the things he’s threatening to talk about if he doesn’t get his way?
