So I wanted to ask you guys about the lyrics to A Supplementary Story: YNWA; specifically the rap lines verses:
SG: Hey, why does God always
make us feel lonely
Oh no no no no no no
Yeah, even if we're covered in scars
We can smile if we’re together
At the end of this road you walk alone
Will you step on it, whatever there may be
Sometimes we may get tired or sick
That’s okay, I am by your side
If you and I are together
We can smile
JH: I want to fly but
I have no wings
But your hand
becomes my wings
I want to forget
the dark and lonely things
Together with you
These wings sprouted
from my pain
But these wings are going towards the light
Even if it's tiring and painful
I will fly if I can
Will you hold my hand,
so that I won’t be afraid anymore?
If you and I are together
I can smile
RM: This is the path I chose
And even if they say it's fate
because I created all of this
Even if they say it's the price
I must pay for this life
Will you walk with me?
Will you fly with me?
To the edge of the sky
so I can touch your hand
Even if it hurts like this
If you and I are together
I can smile
What are your thoughts?
Sidenote: Most of the lyrics to Fake Love do appear to be about the downside to love. The video just doesn't match and have nothing to do with the song. There are a lot of connections to the INU video and Wings teasers.
If it wasn't for $u-ga's verse, I would have written this off as a love song, but the first verse puts a slightly different spin on things.
There's so much talk of sprouting wings and growing them recently. Fallen angels are said to lose their wings - and essentially, their divinity, in a sense. Perhaps growing wings is symbolic of becoming divine (like gods) - and therefore gaining power, as occult societies do believe that humans can become like gods. But by the first verse, these wings (the power) is attained by turning against god (as the majority think of god.)
Because of the usage of 'we' in the first verse, I'm thinking that $u-ga is not speaking from his own pov - but from the pov of the seducer. The giver of these 'wings' (power). The being is luring them in with promises.
'Yeah even if we're covered in scars' - scars from what, I wonder.
With J*H and R*M's verses they seem to be speaking from their own pov, but they're making a sort of allegiance to the being represented in $u-ga's verse. They've fallen for the promises.
J*H sounds more needy, while R*M sounds a lot more resolute.
The lyrics of a lot of songs have to be taken either way otherwise too many people will find it weird - they have the surface 'downside to love' meaning but then usually the MV is so completely different. The MV holds the true meaning imo, so the lyrics will probably hold the 'other' meaning too.
I'm happy to find this forum. The discussions here offer a lot of insight.
