With the world’s eyes on Afghanistan, how does the Taliban represent Islam?

Nope, i come from a small town of about 3000 people. All of them Christian.

Lets use @Tidal as an example since we both know him. Admits to using porn and prostitutes. Like your Mary thread with him mentioning the priests contradicting his own statements, I've caught him lying several times so bearing false witness isn't a problem for some.

I don't remember @ who, but I've made the comment "like ducks to water, many Christians have no problems with lying" multiple times here. While one of the 10 commandments is thou shall not bear false witness.


If we only looked at the beliefs, you worship Mary, @Red Sky at Morning hates this but worships Jesus. @Todd hates this and worships God alone. All of you claim Christianity. How can you all have Jesus's message with such radically different beliefs?

Don't get me wrong, there are alot of deviant Muslims today, Those that never pray, smoke and drink alcohol. But comparing the "west" to the "non west" religion is largely removed. Just look @Lurking009. Openly says its evil to kill the adulterer when the Bible commands this. Christians today prefer mans law over Gods.

We live in a "modernized west" where God is LARGELY removed. Many Christians Never attend church, many more never even pray at dinner, let alone anytime else. We are at a point where actual believers (which very well might be the Taliban) are demonized across the globe. Even those that have been propagandized the past 20 years have to ask how some small tribal group can beat the #1 military, the United States without the help of the Almighty?

I live in the states and my entire life I have seen Christians take part in alot of what they themselves call evil.

Seeing Tidal is born in England, 70 years ago, there is a high possibility his parents are Christian.

Well my parents never went to church or mentioned religion at all, so I grew up neutral.
Then in my early teens I read a few books about various religions to try to make sense of this crazy world but they made no sense to me, except the Bible..
I liked the incredible toughness of God in the Old T's, and I liked Jesus in the New T as a rebellios role model, so I became hooked on Christianity because its central theme is to regard the stupid world as a joke and not get suckered into taking it seriously..-

Some of us have had a long history with her. She gets in with folks under various names (must have been a Christian for you but Satanist for others). So, trust me, she was just fooling you and only took up the Christian mantle for a bit in that she did not like Muslims. I am just into accurate takes and long-timers know what I say to be true. I haven't really looked into this thread but I am a Christian -- not a perfect one but more real than some. It is really simple, Christians differ as do Muslims and none like to be lumped together in black and white terms for it is complicated on both ends. Many religious folks on sites like this are more extreme and odder than most in everyday life.

If Christianity didn't exist I'd probably become a muslim because I like it's toughness, but I doubt if i'd want to bother with going to mosques or praying 5 times a day.
I wonder why they think 5 times a day is necessary anyway, I'd run out of new things to say to Allah..

For rembrance i think. 5x daily prayer keeps one more focused on the Creator. Hence they do less evil because they are more God conscious. Its a reminder God is always there.

End of the day its fear of God that keeps a man from cheating on his wife, and all other manor of evil.

But lets consider it from a non religious perspective. If a child has 2 Christian parents, they will be Christian, atleast until they can talk. If they have 2 parents who worship the trees the child will worship trees. Ect.

I don't need to explain this, a child imitates life around them, then end up worshiping what there parents worship, hence "born Christian".

I do agree with this. My parents are both Catholic and growing up that’s what I considered myself to be, despite never going through confirmation. As I got older, I realized I didn’t really agree with that religion and became agnostic.

My husband grew up Catholic, going through confirmation, going to catholic school etc. He still considers himself Catholic although he doesn’t go to church, pray, or do any of the things instilled upon him his whole childhood. He even disagrees with parts of it, in hindsight. Yet still considers his Catholicism a part of him due to his parents.

Neither of my children have parents who are particularly religious. Our kids are free to practice whatever religion they choose. Neither are baptized nor have gone into a church. Because we are both pretty lackadaisical when it comes to religion, it means our kids will likely have similar points of view. But I’ll still raise them to research EVERYTHING and teach them about all religions, because that’s what I did at a young age and I found it bettered my life.

Its just common knowledge kids follow their parents. This is why Muslim woman are forbidden from marrying non Muslim men, because of the children. Due to the nature of the sexes the woman is more submissive then the man. A Christian man with a Jewish wife will have a higher likely hood of producing children with Christian beliefs.

Of course many things are backwards today while a good 5 woman here are feminist.. But still, Gods laws do not change. The man was always intended to be the provider. To take on "the manly role" and all that entails.

The cooperation between the US government and Taliban is well known, same as with Bin-Laden and Saddam Hussein. At what point did the US turn on them? Did the Taliban outgrow their usefulness or gain more power than the US was comfortable with? Were they simply scapegoats to invade the ME/Asia back in 2001?

I agree with the lack of references on this - it was sourced from a pastor I trust. Personally, for the sake of Christians in Afghanistan right now, I hope with all my heart that this is untrue.

I don’t need Muslims to be the “Bad Guys” to prove some kind of point, in fact, the more reasonable and humane the Taliban turn out, the happier I will be (for the Afghan people).

However, I will be keeping an eye on what the Taliban do and asking the question of my Muslim forum members - does this represent a bold and consistent application of Islam or an idiotic “red-neck” version that no real Muslim would stand by?
